Following the rejection of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the EFCC by the senate, influential Nigerians- ex governors, governors, ministers- have been lobbying President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the embattled EFCC chairman and appoint one of their candidate.
According to reports, some of the forces are pushing for the engagement of these people among others:
- retired Commissioner of Police Zakari Biu,
- Comptroller-General of Customs Col. Hamid Ali (retd.),
- retired AIG Amodu Ali
- pioneer EFCC chairman Nuhu Ribadu,
They reportedly cited the damaging report on Magu by the DSS, but Buhari would not heed their advice.
“The President demanded for more cogent reasons on why he should sack Magu. He said they should bring more convincing reasons beyond the DSS report,” a source said.
