The Southampton striker is seen as more attainable than some of the other names on Slaven Bilic’s shortlist for the position, including Celtic starlet Moussa Dembele
West Ham are keen to sign Southampton striker Shane Long this January, Goal understands.
The Hammers are determined to recruit a new striker in the winter window and see the Irishman as more attainable than some other targets.
Slaven Bilic’s side are ready to make a £20 million move for in-demand Celtic forward Moussa Dembele and also retain interest in snatching up Jermain Defoe from Sunderland.
An article on the club’s website also appeared to hint at an approach for Dembele but Long, valued at around £12m by the Saints, is seen as an easier deal to push through.
The former West Brom and Hull City striker has scored only one Premier League goal for Southampton this season.
Brentford forward Scott Hogan is also a target for West Ham but the Championship side have informed the Hammers that their star man would likely cost around £15m.
