Revealed: Roman’s Revolution! Billionaire Chelsea Supremo Is Ready To Splash The Cash On Squad Overhaul To Show He’s Still Serious

Roman Abramovich is overseeing a major squad rebuilding programme at Chelsea. Abramovich is preparing to spend big in January and next summer which will go a long way to suggesting that he is committed to Stamford Bridge for the long term.

Chelsea are closing in on a £40m deal for Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas who is set to join Monaco as soon as they can tie up replacements.

They have also had discussions with Zenit St Petersburg’s Argentinian midfielder Leandro Paredes who is rated in the £30m bracket.

Chelsea owner Abramovich is also discussing striker targets with Bournemouth ’s Callum Wilson on their list.

The other intriguing name which has cropped up is Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi who has a £100m buy-out clause in his contract for clubs outside of Italy.

Icardi, 25, is currently in a contract stalemate with Inter who are keen to extend and improve his deal and, while they are confident of keeping him in January, it could become a bigger issue in the summer.

Chelsea are nervous about allowing Alvaro Morata go in January unless they get a replacement in this month even though the Spain striker wants to quit Stamford Bridge.

Morata’s representatives have held talks with Sevilla who want to sign him on loan with a view to a permanent £35m switch in the summer.

The whole package could add up to £45m with loan fee and wages and that would soften the blow of letting Morata go.

But it depends on Chelsea now as to whether they can get a striker in as they also battle to keep in-demand youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Chelsea are set to ship out Gary Cahill on loan – with Fulham keen but his £150,000-a-week wages are likely to be a sticking point – and Davide Zappacosta is in talks with Lazio.
